Nevada, NV

Nevada is the 7th largest state in the United States.  It is known as the “Battle Born State” as it entered the Union during the Civil War.  Much of the northern half the state is arid; one of the United States’ major nuclear test sites is located in this area and has been used for nuclear weapons testing since 1951.

Known as a center for gambling Nevada’s economy is based heavily on tourism, including Las Vegas’ famous collection of grand casinos.  Mining, which was an early product in the state’s history, and cattle ranching also remain significant elements of the state economy.  Nevada’s hotels and casinos are the primary draws for tourists, although outdoor recreation in Nevada’s wilderness areas also draws visitors.

Nevada’s population is heavily concentrated in urban centers near the western and southern state lines; primarily around Las Vegas and Reno.
